Welcome Back To School!!!!!

Welcome to 3rd Grade!  My name is Mr. Arthur J Pérez and I am excited to be your teacher this year.  Mrs. Alberts, our classroom paraprofessional, and I are looking forward to working with you. This will be my 21st year as a Special Education Teacher in the Howell K-8 School District. For the 19 years I taught at Howell Middle School South in various Resource, In-Class Resource and Self-Contained settings. During those years, I served as the Advisor to the Spring Musical for 10 years, Student Council for 6 years, International Club for 4 years, Newspaper Club for 7 years and even helped coach the Wrestling team one season. I also worked in Howell’s Extended School Year Program for many years. This will be my second-year teaching Elementary students during the regular school year. I am excited to come back to Memorial to be your teacher and fellow Bulldog. I promise to bring positive energy into your learning experience. My philosophy is that we learn most when we are having fun.

I want to tell you about myself so that you can know a little bit about me and feel comfortable coming into our classroom.  My wife's name is Irene and we have been married for 21 years and have two children; Mia who has started her sophomore year of college at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and Andrew who is going into Senior year of High School. We had an awesome summer hiking, hanging out at the beach, and barbequing with our families. We also had a nice vacation in Puerto Rico where we visited our family and did a lot of sightseeing. The things that I love the most are music and baseball.  I play guitar in a band that writes and releases all our own songs. I enjoy using music in the classroom as a fun way to learn.

There are three rules to follow in our classroom:

  1.      Follow all the rules in the student handbook. Use my Guide to Classroom Serenity to guide you that I will hand out on the first day.
  2.      Complete your work in a timely fashion.
  3.      Be Prepared to use your iPad for a bulk of assignment completion and handing in electronically on Schoology and other formats. Make sure your parent/guardian is aware of your assignments so they can help you. Provide them access to your iPad to follow what we are doing in school.

I encourage all of you to participate in activities in school and outside of school. It will make your time as a kid all that more enjoyable to be involved with your friends as well as an opportunity to make new friends.  Here is a list of suggested items that can help you be prepared to start the year:

  •      Two packs of Pencils & two packs of Pens (black or blue ink). You may store them in your assigned bin here in the classroom.
  • One ruler
  • One 2-inch loose leaf binder and dividers. I have paper.
  • One Folder to take home important papers and to send important information back to school.
  • Post-its

We will have space in the classroom to store your academic needs at your desk that will be personally assigned to you, as well as a bin that will be yours only.  During the first days of school, we will go over our schedule. You will all have copies of your schedule to keep in school and to bring home.

Please be ready to share your interests, what you love the most, what you did over the summer, any accomplishments and/or special moments from your life.

Together we will have a very special year!

Mr. Pérez
